Even though it`s easier to find lovely end tables for the home than ever before knowing exactly what constitutes an end table has become much more difficult. They are designed to go at the end of each side of a sofa or next to a set of chairs and can have drawers for storage and lower shelves for use as a display space. They are large enough to hold a lamp and some knick-knacks.
Coffee Tables and End Tables: Placement. The end table should be placed right up beside the arm of the chair. Not directly in contact because any subsequent movement of then chair could easily shake the table and spill the contents of any container. Coffee tables should be placed 18" from the sofa enough room to enable you to walk between the two items of furniture but not so far as to place your cup out of each.
While styles and tastes have changed over the years nesting tables have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years. As manufacturers have developed new takes on this classic new nesting end tables are finding their way back on the market in large numbers. In fact there are literally hundreds of designs to choose from when it comes to nesting tables from the classic look of the 1930s to rustic designs exotic models eclectic designs and of course traditional contemporary and even modern versions. There`s literally a style to match every home and that`s not even counting the finishes or materials whether it`s wood metal marble glass or a mix.
If you do have small end tables that are open you may want to consider adding a contrasting linen or lace piece to the top and even have it extend over and down the sides some. This will give your table a bit more bulk without taking up added space. For really small homes you can eliminate one of the end tables entirely. While it`s nice to have end tables on both ends for convenience and balance there is no hard and fast rule requiring this. You may be able to make due with a single table and perhaps add a floor lamp on the other side to add light and even things out visually.
